I'm also the product of a private (Catholic) school education, for which my parents sacrified hugely. That said, there are those who would argue passionately, as Sandra Tsing Loh documents often: http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2008/08/19/sandra_tsing_loh/
that pro-education families dropping out of the system is a cop-out that pretty much guarantees crappy schools will stay crappy, because parental committment is a huge factor in a school's success.
