It's beautiful out and I really should be running or recreating in the park or celebrating the 2nd day of spring, but I saw that Breakfast at Tiffany's was on and I had to stop and watch. Is there anything better? I realize it's not faithful to Truman Capote's book, that Holly Golightly and Paul Varjak are opportunists and that some parts are wincingly politically incorrect, but I still love it anyway.
Is there a better date than the one Paul and Holly (George Peppard and Audrey Hepburn) go on? The one where they wander the streets of Manhattan doing things they've never done before? Where they go into Tiffany's and ask the man with the crisply spoken words to engrave a Cracker Jack box ring? Audrey Hepburn's little black dress and red-orange coat and hats—and the song! Such a beautiful, haunting song! Watch and listen:
"Oh, I love New York," Holly says. I do, too. Especially in movies like these.
